The human connection to moon runs deep. The moon's gravity keeps the Earth spinning at the right speed and angle to provide the sort of stability necessary for the long and successful development of life. That’s good news for us. It's believed that about 4.5 billion years ago a Mars sized object slammed into Earth, blowing out enough material to create the moon from debris. So the moon may actually be of the Earth. Not to mention its affect on the tides, women’s cycle. But, even without knowing any of that stuff, we’re still just as captivated! There’s just something innate about our connection the moon. We’re so inspired by that round glowing rock in our night sky that it makes its way into our fables, our folklore, our art, and of course, our music.

Songs about the moon. Songs with something beautiful about the moon in them. Songs written under moon. There are just so many. They probably span many years and cultures too. I’ve chosen a few from own collection, and I’d love to hear what other songs about the moon people have in their collection, or in their hearts. But before we get to the music, here’s my favourite lyric about the moon:
I wonder how the same moon outside this Chinatown fair,
Could look down on Illinois, and find you there.
-Shore Leave, Tom Waits
On that note, let’s start with a man who seems to have a longstanding relationship with the moon.
Drunk On the Moon - Tom Waits.
I Wish I Was The Moon. - Neko Case.
Neko Case expresses her desire to be the moon!
Sail To Moon - Radiohead.
Radiohead’s moody and melodic piece about sailing to the moon. Who hasn’t fantasized about that?
