Andrew Baxter
I am a conservative. I am not an ideologue, a zealot, or a huckster. I have nothing to sell you. No, quite simply, I am a conservative. I believe in change. I do, honestly. But I think we should think things through a little bit more than we currently do. I do not believe that technology is in and of itself a boon, nor do I agree that progress can be measured in simple economic terms.
I believe that old form sacrificed in the name of (post)modernity is exactly that, a sacrifice. I believe that ritual and tradition are as – if not more – important to our societies and their stability than they have ever been, and that the further we move from them, the further we move away from who we are.
(Andrew did a double major undergradute degree in history and political science, and just graduated from Simon Fraser University with a graduate degree in Urban Studies).

City Views: A City's Emerging sense of Itself
The city of Vancouver is often refered to as 'No Fun City'. While there is indeed lots of fun to be had here, there is also a sort of broad truth to the lable. Don't Vote! It Will Only Encourage Them.
Here we go again. Another Canadian election day. But this time, maybe if we can just ignore it, just tune it out and refuse to participate in the games being played by our politicians, maybe this time they will hear the deafening silence of our absence. Don't Vote. It will only encourage them.
Saturday Night Jukebox: Made in America
Despite drone attacks, book burnings, and a corrupt poltical class, the United States of America still has much to offer the world. Tonight, I present two examples of the goodness that can still find be found in the land of milk and honey.
Pirates and Democracy: How I learned that there are people in this world who consider themselves 'Piratologists'
It turns out that pirates, despite rumours to the contrary, were in fact anarchists. I know this because I was informed of this by a group of scholars, known colloquially as Piratologists.
